GeoTresOR

Project Objective:

The Rhine Rift Valley holds considerable potential for deep geothermal heat production. However, few projects have been developed so far, largely due to concerns over seismic risks and a lack of clear information on both sides of the Rhine river.

The "GeoTresOR" project brings together French, German and Swiss partners to provide residents and local authorities with better information about this low-carbon energy source. As the impacts of geothermal projects extend beyond national borders, cross-border cooperation is essential. To this end, the project will include public surveys, develop a shared geological database, bilingual information tools, and a digital platform accessible to all.

Ultimately, residents and elected officials will have access to reliable information on the benefits, challenges, and procedures to follow in the event of damage, helping to promote the safe development of geothermal energy in the Upper Rhine region.

Involvement of TRION-climate e.V.:

As a co-funding partner, with a total dedicated budget of €250,000 (60% of which is funded by the ERDF), TRION-climate is engaged in the project through the following activities:

Establishing a shared cross-border knowledge base:

• Supporting the coordination of expert groups

Promoting social and political acceptance of deep geothermal projects:

• Developing and launching a digital information platform
• Publishing an ENERGIE vis-à-vis issue focused on deep geothermal energy
• Assisting in the organisation of deep geothermal energy summits
