Purpose of the Association (§ 2.2 of the Statutes)

The purpose of the association is to promote environmental protection by fostering cross-border synergies in the fields of climate and energy within the Upper Rhine Trinational Metropolitan Region. This objective is pursued by organising events, training courses, site visits, and other similar activities in the areas of climate and energy, which facilitate the cross-border transfer of knowledge and experience, especially through collaboration with other public-interest institutions in these sectors.

Areas of Work (§ 2.4 of the Statutes)

  • Building a cross-border network of energy and climate stakeholders in the Upper Rhine region
  • Promoting cross-border exchanges and sharing of knowledge and experience
  • Assisting companies in comparing standards and best practices
  • Contributing to the emergence of exemplary cross-border projects
  • Supporting data compilation to inform policy decisions

Networking Energy and Climate Actors

Cross-border cooperation is first and foremost about people! TRION-climate aims to connect energy and climate stakeholders from politics, administration, business, and civil society on both sides of the Rhine river. After all, joint and cross-border projects emerge from personal connections and relationships built on mutual trust, beyond cultural barriers.

Trinational Conferences

Together, let’s make the Upper Rhine a model energy region! The cross-border exchange of knowledge and experience is one of TRION-climate’s core missions. Each year, TRION-climate organises a trinational energy congress and a wide range of events, in partnership with other institutions. Members can propose topics and are given priority both as speakers and participants.

Cross-border visits

Experiencing the energy transition up close! TRION-climate regularly organises cross-border visits to exemplary energy transition projects, such as eco-districts, renewable energy facilities, and highly energy-efficient buildings and businesses. TRION-climate members get priority for these visits, which are held in small groups.

Interactive maps for best practices

The Upper Rhine is home to numerous flagship projects driving Europe’s energy transition. As part of its activities, TRION-climate produces interactive maps on climate and energy topics, such as renewable electricity generation facilities or hydrogen infrastructure and projects.

Publication: ENERGIE vis-à-vis

Since 2020, TRION-climate has published ENERGIE vis-à-vis, a review addressing energy issues from German, French, and Swiss perspectives. It compiles the outcomes of TRION conferences and provides members with a platform to showcase exemplary projects, with the aim of fostering cross-border exchanges.
