Interreg projects create a trinational energy network

TRION-climate is the result of two Interreg projects conducted within the framework of the Franco-German-Swiss Upper Rhine Conference.

From 2010 to 2013, the project "Creating a Trinational Energy Network in the Upper Rhine" was implemented under the administrative governance of the Regierungspräsidium Freiburg and the strategic oversight of the URC Climate-Energy Commission.

Drawing on this project, which focused primarily on energy performance in buildings, the Interreg project "Working together to accelerate the energy transition in the Upper Rhine" was carried out from 2013 to 2015, with a broader focus on renewable energies.

Through these projects, a skills database was developed, forming an informal network of energy and climate actors in the Upper Rhine region. In November 2014, the Franco-German-Swiss Upper Rhine Conference resolved to establish the TRION network as a legal entity, resulting in the creation of the TRION-climate association.
